They recently returned from the
Afghanistan War with the Australian

Steve
Kyritsis with Gordon White a sailor that served in the
Greek campaign, and also in the Battle of Crete, with HMAS Sydney. Gordon
and I marched on Anzac day this year. Gordon White is 89 year old.

Victorian RSL honoured Mr George Lekakis AO
Mr Lekakis is presended with his
award by the Victorian RSL

David McLachlan AO, and the
National President of the RSL, Rear
Admiral Ken Doolan AO.

On
the 2nd July at The Victorian RSL
State Conference, Caulfield
Victoria, The Victorian RSL honoured
some people for their contribution
and support towards the Victorias
RSLs and towards veterans. For many years Mr George Lekakis
greatly has supported the Hellenic
RSL, the veterans, and its Members.
Mr Lekakis was pressented the
Meritorious Service Award with gold
badge, by The President of the
Victorian RSL, Maj. Gen. David
McLachlan AO. This award is
pressented to one person only in
Victoria, every year. On behalf the
Hellenic RSL we congratulate Mr
Lekakis and we thank him again for
all his support.
Greek Othodox Community of Melbourne and Victoria, organized an afternoon, to honour the Greek
Australian Vietnam Veterans
Sunday the 26th of July,the Greek Othodox Community of
Melbourne and Victoria, organized an afternoon, to honour the Greek
Australian Vietnam Veterans that served in the Vietnam
War with the Australian defence forces,from 1962-1972. On his speech the President of the Melbourne Greek
Community,MR. Vasilis Papastergiadis,mentioned how proud
the Community is, to all the Veterans for their
contribution in the Australian Armed Forces,and he was
proud to be here today.
Most of the Veterans were called up for National Service
for two years, when Australia introduced conscription in
1965, to increase their forces.There were also regular
Greek Australian servicemen in vietnam. Some of
them served for 20 and even 30 years in the Australian
Defence Forces,ARMY,NAVY,AIR FORCE.
MR. Papastergiadis gave a Plaque to every Vietnam
Veteran on behalf of the Melbourne Greek Community, and
wish them all well. MR. Steve Kyritsis also aknowledge
MR. Papastergiadis for todays event,with an apreciation
Plaque,from all the Greek Australian Vietnam Veterans.
MR.Kyritsis also aknowledge MR.George Lekakis,and the
Victorian Multicultural Commision, for his support to
the Veterans,and the funding given towards the cost of
the book.
MR.Lekakis was given a memento, painting on wood (done by Jim Papandreas, a Veteran) as an
appreciation from all the Veterans.
